Celebrities Pay Tribute To Marvel's Stan Lee

It’s a very sad week for Hollywood. Stan Lee passed away on November 12, 2018 at the age of 95 in Los Angeles, California. The icon was known for his enormous role in the Marvel franchise. He leaves behind a legacy that many, including us here at Zimbio, honor.

Lee is the co-creator of many Marvel superheroes that we love today, including Spider-Man, the Hulk, Doctor Strange, the Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Black Panther, the X-Men, and — with his brother, co-writer Larry Lieber — the characters Ant-Man, Iron Man, and Thor.

We’ve lost a creative genius. Stan Lee was a pioneering force in the superhero universe. I’m proud to have been a small part of his legacy and …. to have helped bring one of his characters to life. #StanLee #wolverine

Thanks for everything, Stan.

He started out as the editor-in-chief of Marvel, eventually taking on the roles of publisher and chairman. He lives on in the works he has created, and no one can deny the impact he has had on pop culture.

Without Lee, there would be no Avengers; no Spider-Man. None of the Marvel films and comics we’ve come to love would even exist. His impact is why Lee has cameoed in every Marvel film. In 2016, he even filmed four cameos in one day at the age of 93. There’s no man like him!

Celebrities and fans have taken to social media to honor the man so many recognize as one of the greatest voices in entertainment.

We lost a good one. What a man and what a life. Marvel’s original superhero and co-creator of IRON MAN, SPIDER-MAN, THE HULK, X-MEN etc. When I first broke into Hollywood, years ago he was so warm and welcoming to me – I’ll never forget it. He gave me very sage advice on navigating a career, that I’ll always carry. What a life he’s lived and how awesome that his imagination and universe creation impacted generations around the world. And for generations to come. Rest in love, my friend. #imagination #stanlee 💫 📸 @hhgarcia41

Some people say comic books are silly. That people should stop reading them and grow up. This might be the most mature thing I’ve heard in a long time. Now I’m beginning to think they should be required reading for everyone. ✊#stanlee #dreamer #inspirational #alwaysforward #weareallone

Many have also taken to social media to bring Lee’s character to light. It’s important to note he’s always been a champion for the people. He’s campaigned to include diversity in his stories and used his platform to stand up for people with far less privilege — way before it became more socially acceptable.

In the essay above, published in Lee’s monthly column for Marvel, he wrote, “Let’s lay it right on the line. Bigotry and racism are among the deadliest social ills plaguing the world today. But, unlike a team of costumed super-villains, they can’t be halted with a punch in the snoot, or a zap from a ray gun.”

He continued, “The only way to destroy them is to expose them—to reveal them for the insidious evils they really are. The bigot is an unreasoning hater—one who hates blindly, fanatically, indiscriminately. If his hang-up is black men, he hates ALL black men. If a redhead once offended him, he hates ALL redheads. If some foreigner beat him to a job, he’s down on ALL foreigners.”

“He hates people he’s never seen—people he’s never known—with equal intensity—with equal venom,” Lee wrote. “Now, we’re not trying to say it’s unreasonable for one human being to bug another. But, although anyone has the right to dislike another individual, it’s totally irrational, patently insane to condemn an entire race—to despise an entire nation—to vilify an entire religion. Sooner or later, we must learn to judge each other on our own merits. Sooner or later, if man is ever to be worthy of his destiny, we must fill out hearts with tolerance. For then, and only then, will we be truly worthy of the concept that man was created in the image of God–a God who calls us ALL—His children.”

Sad, sad day. Rest In Power Uncle Stan. You have made the world a better place through the power of modern mythology and your love of this messy business of being human… you let us be extra human… superhuman even. I am deeply honored to have been a small part in the Stan Lee constellation.
