Mum spills top tips after winning £28k of prizes entering 150 competitions a day

A mum who has won £28,000 worth of prizes by entering 150 competitions a day has shared some of her top tips.

Michelle Hughes, who says it’s become an addiction, described the buzz she gets from winning "immense".

And she credits her wins with going for competitions that not many people have entered – as well as changing her tactics.

Michelle says she enters competitions through a number of ways – including on Twitter, radio, in magazines and on Instagram.

The 30-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent once won an all inclusive trip to Ibiza, Spain, which was worth £3,000.

Other prizes include three XBoxes, seven phones, a 60 inch Curve TV, Spice Girls tickets and designer shoes, The Sun reports.

Michelle said: "It’s become an addiction, the buzz from winning is immense and now I enter at least 150 a day if I can."

She added: "I tend to change entering tactics, I don’t focus on just Facebook. I use the Internet, Twitter, local comps, radios, magazines, postal entities and Instagram too."

Stoke-on-Trent Live has shared some of her top tips:

Top tips for winning competitions

Join a forum

There are forums full of the latest competitions for you to enter.

Keep a record

Keeping track of the competitions you have entered means you won’t miss a win.

Find more obscure competitions

The chances are, not as many other people will enter so you would be more likely to win.

Set up a different email

This will keep your own email address free of spam.

Make effort

If competitions require you to put in som effort – like writing a poem – fewer people enter so there’s more chance of winning.

Beware premium rate phone contests

If a competition has a premium rate phone line, it could cost you a lot. The money you’ve spent on the phone call is non-refundable, regardless of whether you win.

Get in touch

If you get a message saying you have won, remember to message back, as some promoters will withdraw the prize if they have not heard from you.

Check your junk mail

Emails with certain words such as “congratulations” or “winner” sometimes get put in the junk mail folder.

Take care

Don’t enter something if it doesn’t look legit. It could be a scam.

Check social media

A lot of pages run promotions that involve liking their page or commenting on something.

She has bagged more than 500 prizes in the last six and a half years, dedicating nearly a decade to her hobby.

And since going on maternity leave nine years ago, she has entered more than 10,000 competitions.

She spends around two hours daily on her hobby, and even more at the weekends.

Michelle’s tactics also include entering competitions through Google, even looking for what she describes as "creative competitions".

She advised people who are starting out with the hobby to not get stressed if they don’t win straight away.

The mum-of-two, who shared her wins on forum LatestFreeStuff.co.uk, uses the time that her kids are in bed to enter the contests.
