Former Tottenham and England striker Darren Bent blasts Arsenal star for not bringing anything 'substantial' to team | The Sun

KAI HAVERTZ has been slammed by former England striker Darren Bent for not adding anything to Arsenal.

The German was signed from Chelsea in a lucrative deal in the summer but has scored just once this season – from the penalty spot against Bournemouth.

His starts have been limited but he was given the chance to impress against West Ham in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

But Bent felt Havertz contributed very little as the Gunners were beaten 3-1 at the London Stadium.

After the game Bent tweeted: "I hate singling out one player but I need someone to explain why £65million was spent on Kai Havertz and what exactly is he bringing to the team?

"15 games into the season I haven't seen anything substantial."

Havertz, 24, has faced a lot of criticism since his move across London with many unsure of where he fits into Mikel Arteta's team.

Chelsea icon Frank Leboeuf tore into the midfielder by suggesting his best position is on the bench for Arsenal, so he does not disturb his team-mates on the pitch.

Former Arsenal captain William Gallas supports Bent's view that Havertz has done very little since his arrival.

He said: "I’m not impressed with Kai Havertz so far.

"He’s done nothing since he joined Arsenal. He may have scored, but that was only because Martin Odegaard let him take a penalty!

"Havertz hasn’t done anything yet, and I think he’s in trouble.

"I don’t think Arsenal should have signed Kai Havertz. I think that was a mistake. If you spent £60million on a striker, you expect them to score at least 15 goals in a season! I don’t think that’ll happen.

"Arsenal don’t have time! The season may be long, but clubs need results straight away.

"Havertz was at Chelsea for three years and knows the Premier League well.

"It may take a while to settle into a new team, but he already lived in London!

"Players need to adapt immediately – they don’t have time."
