Huge change to dartboards announced for World Darts Championship as stunned fans say 'surely this is a hoax' | The Sun

FANS have been left in shock after a huge announcement was made about the dartboards for the World Darts Championship.

The upcoming tournament is set to see the introduction of a new-look dartboard thanks to its sponsor, Paddy Power.

The Irish bookmakers have made a change to the iconic treble 20 bed on the board in their bid to make the event as green as possible.

The PDC today unveiled a board that replaced the traditional red space with a green one to match Paddy Power's Ireland-inspired branding.

And fans inside London's much-loved Ally Pally over the festive period will have to get used to the the look of it with the dartboard set to be placed at the centre of a stage illuminated by an electrifying green backdrop.

But it's not just about branding and causing a stir, the new-look dartboard has some science behind it too.

A statement released alongside the news revealed that research has shows that the colour green sits at the centre of the visual spectrum, while red and blue are on either end of the scale.

This means the change could make the treble 20 be seen more accurately – and raise the chances of seeing 1,000 or more trebles landed at the tournament.

But fans aren't buying the reasons behind the radical change and took to social media to express their thoughts.

Many of them were convinced it was all a ruse by the mischief-loving bookmaker, with one writing: "Surely this is a massive hoax."

Another added: "Can’t be real. Publicity stunt surely!"

While a third wrote: "April fools in November."

It wouldn't be the first time that Paddy Power had played a prank on the sporting world.

Back in 2019 they launched a campaign where they added a huge sponsor across Huddersfield Town's home kit before revealing it was a hoax just a matter of days later.
