Man Utd vs Chelsea: Blues hope to pile more misery on United after lacklustre Toon loss – stream FREE, TV, team news | The Sun

MANCHESTER UNITED and Chelsea face off as both sides look to add some consistency to their seasons in a huge Premier League match-up tonight.

The two Premier League giants have suffered stop-start campaigns so far this term, with both sitting outside of the top six.

Man United come into the game after a disappointing defeat to Newcastle at St James' Park.

Former Chelsea transfer target Anthony Gordon fired in the only goal of the game to hand the Magpies all three points.

The scoreline flattered United as Eddie Howe's men squandered several chances during the match.

The performance forced Red Devils legend Gary Neville into admitting he is "tired" of his own club and that he "don't want to watch them" anymore.

The Blues, however, won their last match against Brighton in a thriller at Stamford Bridge.

Mauricio Pochettino's side came out on top 3-2 despite losing Conor Gallagher to a red card.

The win saw Chelsea remain in the top half of the table, which could be a bad omen for Man United.

It is no secret that Erik ten Hag's side have struggled against top teams this season.

The Red Devils have lost all five games they have played this season against teams in the top half of the table going into the match.

Those defeats have come against Tottenham, Arsenal, Brighton, Man City and now Newcastle.

This means that Chelsea could look to make it six out of six this season.

Both teams have been inconsistent this season and a win could help them boost their hopes of surging back up the Premier League table.

What is their form like?

Chelsea's form has been a very mixed bag in recent weeks.

In their last five Premier League games, the West London outfit has won two, lost two, and drawn one.

The Blues beat Brighton and Tottenham but lost to Newcastle and Brentford while drawing to Manchester City.

Man United on the other hand have won three of their last five league matches.

The Red Devils came out on top against Fulham, Luton Town and Everton.

However, tougher fixtures against Man City and Newcastle saw them fall to defeat.

What is the team news?

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino would have been delighted to have escaped the Brighton win with no fresh injury concerns.

In addition to that, Pochettino could be tempted into welcoming Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia to the fold after their long term injuries.

But the Blues boss is still expected to be without Malo Gusto (knock), Wesley Fofana (cruciate ligament), Carney Chukwuemeka (knee), Trevoh Chalobah (hamstring) and Ben Chilwell (hamstring).

Conor Gallagher misses out through suspension after picking up two yellow cards against the Seagulls.

Elsewhere, Erik ten Hag's injury is likely to be without Tyrell Malacia (knee), Christian Eriksen (leg), Jonny Evans (muscular), Casemiro (hamstring), Lisandro Martinez (foot) and Amad Diallo (knee).

Mason Mount will also miss the clash against his former club with a calf injury, while Jadon Sancho's banishment continues.

Who will be the star men?

Man United captain Bruno Fernandes could step up and answer some critics with a quality performance against Chelsea.

The attacking midfielder has been one of the club's star players since his arrival in 2020 and has chipped in this season.

Fernandes has three goals and three assists in 14 Premier League outings and could look to add to his tally.

Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez will have to be on top form in order to help his side pick up another positive result.

The midfielder will also have to put in some more running, as midfield partner Gallagher will miss out through suspension.

Fernandez finally grabbed his first two Premier League goals of the season against Brighton and will be hoping to continue his goalscoring form against United.

What have the managers said?

Pochettino has praised Enzo Fernandez ahead of the match against Manchester United.

He said: "It's important that different players can score. For Enzo, it was his first and second goal in the Premier League.

"We are always talking about confidence, it is important that they are building that confidence.

"Players always need six months or one season to start to show their real quality, why is it going to be different at Chelsea?

"I’m so happy that different players could score goals, to help the team."

Erik ten Hag however has claimed that United need to dominate games more moving on from their loss to Newcastle.

He said: "This week, it was not in our advantage but you have to take it as it is. We have to put this right.

"I know we are resilient. We can do that.

"Several weeks ago, we lost to [Manchester] City and then we had a good run [in the Premier League], so we have to get back to a good run.

"You could say we defended quite well [Against Newcastle] but I prefer to stay further away from our goal and I prefer to have more of the ball, to play in their half.

"We had our moments where we could make good formations but it wasn’t enough.

"We could have been more dominant in the game."
