The Spaniard posted the snap on Twitter, captioning it: "30 today and not much has changed. Thank you all for your birthday messages."
It shows him as a young boy in Spain, balancing a football on his trademark left foot, while standing perfectly still with his hands behind his back.
He appears to be on a football pitch somewhere in his homeland.
On Twitter, the image is accompanied by a variety of emojis.
Mata has scored three times in 26 Premier League appearances for United this season.
He’s in line to feature when his side host Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.
On Saturday, his teammates gave him the bumps during training to mark his milestone birthday.
Pictures showed them throwing him up and down as they took a break from the usual drills.
