Alex Jones: The One Show host opens up on ‘impossible’ family situation amid coronavirus

Alex Jones, 43, and co-host Patrick Kielty, 49, chatted with BBC correspondent Amol Rajan, 36, on The One Show. The Welsh-born presenter revealed she was in an “impossible” situation with her eldest son Teddy who admittedly doesn’t understand what’s going on following the coronavirus outbreak.

The One Show host said she is “finding it hard” to explain COVID-19 to her three-year-old son.

Amol quizzed the pair: “How are you guys doing?”

Patrick replied: “We’re okay. We’ve been able to come into work and somebody else is doing the home schooling.”

Amol questioned further: “What do you say to your kids and how are they coping?”

Alex replied: “Well, I mean Teddy just doesn’t know what’s going on. I’m finding it really hard to explain why we can’t go to the playground, there’s no friends. It’s impossible.”

Amol agreed: “Winston, who is the same age as your son, keeps asking when the virus is going to be over. You don’t know what to say to him.”

Patrick added: “But there’s sort of that expectations from kids. If it’s holiday time they get to see their friends, school time they get to see their friends. And what time do you break it to them, that it’s not going to happen for a while.”

Alex tied the knot with her husband Charlie Thomson in 2015.

The couple welcomed their first son Teddy in 2017 and two years later their second child Kit.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus outbreak has seen schools, restaurants and bars across the UK forced to close in order to halt the spread of COVID-19.

Alex’s regular co-host Matt Baker decided to self-isolate last week, after he explained one of his family members had a cough.

The Countryfile host has since revealed he has experienced symptoms of coronavirus.

The presenter did not check in with his co-star Alex Jones during the show on Friday because he wasn’t feeling very well.

Alex explained at the time that Matt “felt super groggy, really tired”.

She added: “We don’t know if he’s got coronavirus of course, but [he’s] really not very well.”

Fortunately, the dad-of-two revealed he is feeling better during his appearance on last night’s episode of The One Show.
