Alex Jones: The One Show host shocked by guest’s revelation about rude jokes

Alex Jones, 42, chatted to comedian Jimmy Carr, 46, on the sofa last week beside Amol Rajan, who stepped in for Matt Baker.

The funnyman spoke about his stand-up shows and revealed many families go together to watch him, which left Alex open-mouthed.

Jimmy spilled: “I’ve had people come with their families to my show, which I found horribly inappropriate.”

Alex couldn’t believe families would attend Jimmy’s shows together, which feature rude jokes.

Noting Alex’s reaction, Alan continued: “They’re pretty brutal, the clip you showed, I think there was 3 clean jokes.”

“There was one clip which we could show, that was it,” Alex replied.

“It’s not for everyone,” Jimmy added.

“It’s a strong flavour, my comedy, so I think it’s surprising.”

He went on: “And, you make judgements. I walk out on my show and you see someone in their seventies in the front row and think this isn’t for them.

“But then you realise, the thing which unites people is their sense of humour.”

Jimmy said: “I think that’s why people like going out to live events because you’re in a room with a thousand people who have the same sense of humour as you.”

Alex is currently preparing to go on maternity leave as the BBC favourite is pregnant with her second child.

Her replacement has now been revealed to be broadcaster Angela Scanlon.

During an appearance on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch last week, Angela spoke of her excitement at returning to The One Show to hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer.

Tim asked: “And Alex Jones is pregnant again. You’ve covered on The One Show for her last time, will you be going back on there?”

“She is! I will,” Angela replied. “I’m actually on The One Show tomorrow as a guest on the other side and yes I will be sitting in for her [when she goes on maternity leave].”

Alex recently shared a stunning snap of herself on Instagram showing off her blossoming baby bump.

Wearing a patterned red dress, the Welsh beauty looked glowing, despite saying she has a cold.

Her frock allowed her to put her lean pins on display, which she elongated with a pair of black heeled boots.

The One Show airs tonight on BBC One at 7pm.
