Annabella Sciorra thinks Harvey Weinstein should be behind bars
Harvey Weinstein accuser Annabella Sciorra said Sunday that the movie mogul should be locked up — instead of enjoying his freedom after posting $1 million bail.
“If there was truly ’equal justice under the law’, Harvey Weinstein would be behind bars in Rikers today, waiting for his own day in court,” the “Sopranos” actress wrote on Twitter.
“Not free to roam New York, his other hunting ground, wearing an ankle bracelet.”
Sciorra, who claims she was violently raped by Weinstein in the early 90s, was incensed to see the alleged sex abuser walk away from court smiling.
“The smirk on his face as he was led out of the police station in cuffs made me physically sick,” Sciorra said.
“The public statement from his lawyer was intended only to denigrate all the brave women who came forward and spoke out against him.”
She also juxtaposed Weinstein’s money and power to those in the criminal justice system who are less fortunate.
“Compare that to the case of Kalief Browder, who was denied bail after being accused of a misdemeanor, then spent four years in Rikers, over half of it in solitary confinement, awaiting a trial that never occurred,” she wrote.
Browder committed suicide in 2015, two years after his release, in what his supporters claim was a byproduct of suffering mental and physical abuse in prison.
She added: “money buys VIP treatment in the justice system no matter how serious or violent the crimes.”
Weinstein was charged with multiple counts of rape and criminal sex act in Manhattan Criminal Court on Friday.
