Antoine Griezmann signs deal until 2023 to keep him at Atletico Madrid

France striker Antoine Griezmann has penned a deal to keep him at Atletico Madrid until 2023.

The striker decided to inform the world that he was turning his back on a £90million move to Barcelona to stay with Atletico just 48 hours before France kicked off their World Cup campaign.

France boss Didier Deschamps then warned that Griezmann is ready to take the World Cup by storm after committing his future.

Both Deschamps and captain Hugo Lloris played down Griezmann’s bizarre decision to inform the world in that way.

The French forward, who scored 29 times for the Europa League winners last season including two in their 3-0 final win over Marseille, had been the subject of a €100million offer from Barcelona.

But in a programme called ‘The Decision’, aired on Spanish TV and echoing LeBron James’ infamous 2010 conclusion to leave NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers for Miami Heat, Griezmann declared that he will remain at the Wanda Metropolitano.

"I have decided to stay," said the 27-year-old at the close of the programme.

He immediately posted a tweet offering further confirmation, stating: "My fans, my home, my team."
