Armie Hammer Does Not Have the Appetite for This DM Scandal

Armie Hammer has released a statement addressing the “vicious and spurious online attacks” accusing the actor of allegedly sending graphic sexual messages to various women. He has also stepped down from his role in the upcoming Jennifer Lopez rom-com Shotgun Wedding in light of the controversy.

“I’m not responding to these bullshit claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic,” he said in a statement shared to Variety, Deadline, and The Hollywood Reporter. “Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that.”

A representative for the Lionsgate-produced film added to Variety, “Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision.” Hammer’s role will be recast.

The scandal centering on Hammer’s past sex life gained traction over the past week after unverified screenshots were leaked online, allegedly showing the actor detailing explicit sexual fantasies, including cannibalism. The Call Me by Your Name star appeared to tell a woman that he is “100% a cannibal” and said that he wanted to “drink your blood,” Variety reported. These allegations have not been verified by BAZAAR.com.

At this point, it’s still unknown who will fill in for Hammer’s role in Shotgun Wedding. According to an earlier statement from a film rep to People, production is “imminent.” The film, produced by Lopez and Ryan Reynolds, centers on a couple bringing their families together for a destination wedding.
