Beth and Howard Stern eat at 4, go to bed at 8 and wake up at 5: goals?

Beth Stern was on Ellen last week. She’s hosting the Kitten Bowl! She’s Howard Stern’s wife, they’ve been together 20 years and married 10, and she’s involved in cat rescue and fostering. They currently have four resident cats at home and 12 in their foster area. (She said she fosters 50 cats but I think some are at the North Shore Animal League.) On Ellen, Beth revealed that she and her husband, Howard Stern, have a schedule I envy. They wake up and eat at the same time I do but they go to bed earlier. Now I want to do this. I’ve seen her in interviews before but I can’t get over how sweet and likable she is. I also buy that she and Howard are tight like this. They sound like an old married couple. However Howard complained about Beth telling him to cheer up and outlets picked it up like they were breaking up.

“Does Howard like The Bachelor”
He loves it, we love watching it together. We have to watch it the next day because we go to bed at 8. [He wakes up] 4:45/5:00 and I wake up with him because I want to be with him. 20 years it’s been our routine together. Dinner is at 4.

“People make fun of me that I make reservations at a restaurant at 6″
We’re standing there knocking on a window.

Someone approached Beth and said she hopes things were ok with Howard
I said to Howard ‘You’ve got to stop walking around so grumpy.’ So he went on the air that morning and said ‘Oh my wife thinks I’m so depressed. I hope she still loves me.’ That’s what I think he said, I don’t listen to the show. I foster 50 cats. It’s serious business. The google alerts come ‘Howard and Beth Stern breaking up.’ Apparently he spoke about us and it spread like wildfire. 20 years of marital bliss. I’m setting the record straight. I love my Howard.

OK I do this! Go ahead and make fun of me but I get up at 4-5 am every day and eat dinner around 4 pm. If I sleep until 6 on the weekends it’s a treat. My body wakes me up at 5 usually no matter what. I also take naps in the afternoon. If I got a 9 to 5 job I would probably adjust, but I like working early and having my afternoons off. I go to bed around 9:30/10 and usually fall asleep on the couch watching a show before that and have to get woken up to go to bed.

A lot of people think if you go to bed early you’re missing out, but to me it feels luxurious like I’m treating myself. (I’m paraphrasing that from one of Gretchen Rubin’s Happier podcasts. She has a similar approach to her schedule and has explained it better than I can.) I would miss my time in the evenings watching TV with family and friends so I probably won’t go to bed at 8 every night. Maybe a couple of times a week though. Or I could just make my afternoon nap longer! That’s settled, I’m doing that today. A two hour nap is awesome.

Here’s her interview and I’m including some of her cat photos below.

We used to have a calico with this kind of face she was so cute

I just told Patches that every little thing is gonna be alright. And she started purring. And licking me. She heard me. I wish she could understand that her human didn’t abandon her and that she loved her so much. #patches ?
