Bad news, fashion fans: We will not be getting a Beyoncé moment at the 2018 Met Gala after all.
We know, we know, this will mark two years in a row that the Queen Bey herself will be skipping the Met Gala in favor of other activities, but try to hold back the tears while we break down what happened. It’s true that fans were hoping that Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z would strut down the Met Gala red carpet for the first time since 2016, but even though that was supposed to happen, things changed.

Sources tell Entertainment Tonight that while Beyoncé had originally planned to come to fashion’s big night out, she changed her mind. Because of Jay-Z. Beyoncé allegedly had a custom gown by DUNDAS ready to go for Monday evening, but Jay-Z had other plans.
“Jay-Z surprised her with a trip because he felt she needed to relax before her tour,” the source said to ET, adding that the designer behind her soon-to-be-unused Met Gala dress, Peter Dundas, had been working for weeks on her gown.
The break isn’t totally out of the blue—after all, the couple is surely busy with their daughter Blue Ivy and infant twins Rumi and Sir, and they’re also about to embark on their On the Run II tour together.
Even so, thinking of the Beyoncé moment that will now never be is nothing short of a fashion nightmare.
