Bill Turnbull, 64, came to his friend and former BBC Breakfast co-star Sian Williams’ defence after a Twitter user took aim at the 55-year-old. The Channel 5 anchor and the Classic FM DJ presented together on the Breakfast show for over a decade before Sian exited the programme in 2015 and Bill followed suit the following year.

Despite not being on the BBC morning show for the past five years, the small-screen stars certainly proved they still have each other’s back.

It comes after Sian addressed a social media user who slammed the presenter for being “ignorant” after a recent broadcast.

In view of her 74,000 Twitter followers, the journalist and broadcaster hit back after she retweeted the message.

The person in question wrote: “@sianwilliams100 Don’t you know that smashing into the end credits of a show is the crassest ignorance? #channel5 #BBC #ITV #SKY.”

Sian claimed the social media user would often refer to herself and Bill as “crass and ignorant” when they both appeared on BBC Breakfast.

She replied: “Oh James, @billtu will be delighted to hear that after 10 years of emailing us from France when we were on @BBCBreakfast – pointing out why and when we were ‘crass and ignorant’ – you’ve now found me on @5_News to do the same.”

The Classic FM DJ seemingly appeared to be aware of the social media user in question, as he replied: “OMG he’s back. Thank heaven he hasn’t found me @classicfm.

“I trust you can deal with him on your own, Siany x.”(sic)

Bill couldn’t resist taking a cheeky swipe at the Twitter user, as he joked that they may be a “secret” admirer of Sian.

He later penned: “Actually I think he must secretly be in love with you.”

But Sian didn’t agree, as she commented: “Funny way of showing it.”

Both Bill and Sian have remained close with a friendship which spans over 25 years.

Last year, the Channel 5 newsreader opened up about her appearance on Bill’s documentary Staying Alive, where she spoke about living with cancer.

Back in 2016, Sian revealed she had undergone a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

The pair discussed the after effects of the illness as Bill – who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2016 – asked her if her blood was checked monthly.

At the time, Sian revealed the emotional moment of the film was captured when she thought the cameras had stopped rolling.
