Birdman Under Investigation For Allegedly Planning To Shoot Up Lil Wayne’s Tour Bus

He calls the rapper his son but – in a stunning turn of events – Birdman is reportedly being investigated for allegedly planning the shooting of Lil Wayne’s tour bus.

Birdman, 49, is being investigated following allegations that he was the mastermind behind the 2015 shooting of Lil Wayne’s tour bus, according to reports. The man who has long considered the 36-year-old rapper his son is in hot water, according to TMZ, which first broke the story. The Cobb County, Georgia DA reportedly confirmed the news to the website on Sept. 28. Fellow rapper Young Thug, 27, is also supposedly being investigated.

The stunning development takes place three years after the April 2015 shootout in Atlanta. Shots were fired as two tour buses pulled away after Lil Wayne performed in a nightclub. The shooter, Jimmy Carlton Winfrey, was eventually slapped with a 20-year sentence. The incident took place at the height of the beef between Birdman (real name Bryan Williams) and Lil Wayne (born Dwayne Carter Jr.). Even though the older rapper discovered and nurtured Weezy they fell out over money and the delay of the release of Wayne’s long-awaited album, Tha Carter V (which ultimately dropped, ironically, on Sept. 28).

That fight spilled out on to the streets of Atlanta in April 2015, after Weezy performed at the Compound nightclub, according to TMZ. Gun fire erupted after 3:30am, as two tour buses were leaving. Lil Wayne was on one of those buses. Thankfully no one was injured, but the cops were called and, in November that year, the gunman Winfrey pled guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in prison and an additional 10-year probation. (His conviction was later overturned in July 2018.)

The fight between Birdman and Lil Wayne has become ugly over the years – taking place in court (Weezy sued Birdman’s Cash Money label for $51 million), and on diss tracks and in performances. In April 2015, for example, Wayne yelled “f*** Cash Money” while performing in Jacksonville, Florida according to Complex. It’s not the first time that Birdman has been rumored to be connected to the shooting. In July 2015 he flatly denied it during an interview with radio host Angie Martinez. “Wayne is my son no matter what. That ain’t never gonna change,” he told her.

No matter what Birdman says, the Cobb County DA has made it very clear that he’s taking the case seriously. On Sept. 28 WSB-TV journalist Mike Petchenik tweeted, “#Cobb DA’s office tells me they will decide in ‘next few weeks’ whether to charge Birdman, Young Thug in shooting of Lil’ Wayne’s tour bus. Starting at 4, the new evidence surfacing in a civil suit over the shooting.” HollywoodLife will keep you updated as this story develops.
