His sister is a multi-millionaire Australian movie star who lives in an English manor, but for Cate Blanchett’s big brother from Melbourne – life has been tougher.

Robert Blanchett, 51, opens the door of his Clifton Hill flat only wide enough for him to be able to peer outside.

Based only 4km from the heart of Melbourne, Mr Blanchett’s life could not be any more different from his mega-star sister, who is reportedly worth $85 million and has featured in a string of blockbusters, including the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Blue Jasmine and Carol.

While there is a large gate leading to Mr Blanchett’s ground floor flat, it’s not manned by security guards, there is no brass buzzer and the gate is unlocked.

He has managed to spend his quiet life out of the spotlight and he is happy enough to do so.

‘I’m not a public figure,’ he told Daily Mail Australia.

But he was recently thrust into the spotlight when Radaronline  – an U.S. celebrity website – reported he was estranged from his famous sibling.

Walking with the aid of a walking frame, and appearing to suffer from a mild disability, Mr Blanchett was found ‘struggling to stand at a bus stop’, the publication wrote.

Radar claimed to interview him ‘inside his shabby home’ where he told the publication: ‘People have called before thinking I’m my dad, but he died 40 years ago.’

When asked by Daily Mail Australia about the story, Mr Blanchett said: ‘That article can stand on it’s own merit.

‘I don’t have any comment to make.’

Only a stone’s throw from trendy Fitzroy, Clifton Hill is hardly a ghetto and in years gone by was described as the ‘Toorak of Collingwood’.
