At least 11 employees were laid off from the online Millennial-focused site Bustle on Thursday.
Among the staffers who announced their termination on Twitter include editors Sage Young, Emma Lord, Cristina Arreola, Jamie Primeau, Mallory Carra, Tanya Ghahremani, and writers Nicole Pomarico, Jack O’Keeffe, Lucia Peters, Leah Marilla Thomas, and Megan Grant.
“BDG has recently hired dozens of writers and editors across our many properties — especially Nylon, Mic, Inverse, and Input. Bustle’s new editorial leadership will soon be announcing several marquee hires as we prepare for a major site relaunch in early 2020,” a Bustle spokesperson told The Wrap in a statement.
Bustle Digital Group was formed in 2013 by Bryan Goldberg, who had also purchased Gawker last year after its bankruptcy. In addition to Bustle and Gawker, the media company includes Inverse, The Outline, Nylon, Mic, Elite Daily, The Zoe Report, and Romper.
The layoffs at Bustle also come a week after the entire editorial staff at Deadspin, a former Gawker Media website, resigned en masse.
The columnist E. Jean Carroll also weighed in on the layoffs on Thursday morning, tweeting, “BUSTLE! Women must stop thanking companies for the ‘dream jobs’ they had when they’re being fired! WOMEN GOTTA STOP THANKING EVERYONE! Tell them to go hell!”
