Carragher goaded by Man City fans at services – responds with ‘obscene gesture’

Jamie Carragher was subjected to a vitriol of vile abuse from Manchester City fans at a motorway service station – and responded with an apparent obscene gesture.

Footage showing the Sky Sports pundit clashing with the supporters emerged after the Premier League champions’ 2-0 win over Arsenal at the Emirates.

The fans, a safe distance away from the former Liverpool and England defender, launch a string of disgusting slurs including "Scouse c***" and "Scouse b*****d" at him.

Dressed in the same white shirt he was wearing during his analysis of the 4pm game earlier that day, Carragher is seen gesticulating at the fans.

WARNING: Extremely offensive language

He then appears to make an obscene gesture at them before disappearing into the Moto services.

It comes five months after Carragher was suspended by Sky over a video which showed him spitting at a car following Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester United .

The 40-year-old, who issued an apology to the family involved live on Sky, describing his actions as a "moment of madness", only returned to punditry duties this weekend.

On Twitter , where footage of the latest incident has been widely shared, the majority of viewers have defended Carragher, criticising the supporters instead.

However, some have suggested he should have turned the other cheek.

Here’s how people have been reacting to the footage:
