Charlize Theron Photobombed by Tom Hanks, Regina King and More in Epic Oscars Selfie

The ‘Bombshell’ actress held up the camera for herself and her mother Gerda Maritz, who was her date at the 2020 Academy Awards, when other stars like Salma Hayek and Rami Malek gathered around to get into the frame.

On Tuesday, February 11, the “Bombshell” actress treated fans with an epic Instagram post that captured the moment her selfie attempt at the 92nd annual Academy Awards was photobombed by a number of other A-listers.

In the post captioned “Good company,” the “Monster” star was all smiles while sitting next to her mother Gerda Jacob Aletta Maritz. Sharing the frame with the mother-daughter duo were the likes of “Bohemian Rhapsody” actor Rami Malek, “A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood” star Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, “Frida” actress Salma Hayek, and “If Beale Street Could Talk” actress Regina King.

Also joining the fun selfie were Hayek’s manager Evelyn O’Neill and King’s sister Reina King. Other famous faces spotted in the background of the selfie included “The Matrix” star Keanu Reeves, “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” director Quentin Tarantino and “Marriage Story” star Noah Baumbach. All three weren’t aware they were captured on camera.

Theron’s post has quickly collected positive response from celebrities and others alike. Food critic and chef Andrew Zimmern simply wrote, “Nice squad.” Meanwhile, “Queer Eye” fashion expert Carson Kressley gushed in the comment section, “You kids!! You looked GORGE as always !” The official account of Theron’s “Bombshell” movie also chimed in, “Can we be in the selfie too?”

Years before Theron set Internet abuzz with her epic selfie, comedienne DeGeneres got a bunch of celebrities to participate in her selfie, and shared it via Twitter. The 2014 post captured Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Jared Leto, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Lupita Nyong’o in one frame with the two-time Oscars host.

Along with the iconic snap, DeGeneres wrote, “If only Bradley’s arm was longer. Best photo ever.” Her tweet quickly became the most retweeted tweet of all time. It amassed more than 1 million retweets in less than an hour, and has since garnered more than 3 million retweets and more than 2 million likes.
