Chris Evans: ‘Things are just about clinging on’ Virgin Radio host on big decision

Chris Evans, 53, told listeners on his Thursday morning Virgin Radio he had thought about getting a hair transplant.

The host is no stranger to amusingly discussing the issue on his radio shows.

The Virgin Radio host was reading out fan questions when he came to one that was a little close to home.

“Please could you tell me your thoughts on hair transplants in men,” Chris read before bursting out laughing.

“Might as well!” He exclaimed before continuing to read the question: “My 33-year-old son is going ahead with it, I’m really dubious.”

“Well if you go to the right people it’s fine and it does work!” Chris reassured the listener.

He then revealed that he had considered going under the knife to help stop his balding: “I have friends who’ve done it. I’ve not done it, but I’ve often thought about it,” he confessed.

“But I get my pills and my lotion and it’s alright for now, things are just about clinging on.” He joked.

Earlier this year, Chris disclosed his detailed beauty regime that he sticks to religiously to combat his hair loss.

“I take medication for my hair, you know this and have done for years. I have to monitor my hair on a daily basis.”

Listeners heard the host detail the steps he takes to try to stop losing his hair: “If you looked at photographs from a few years ago I hardly had any [hair],” he said.

“I’ve not got much more now but I’ve got more than I would have.”

He spoke about the expert he visits who has helped him on his hair journey.

“The guy only got into it because he was going bald,” he explained: “He’s now the leading expert on how not to go bald without a transplant.”

“There’s no transplant involved at all,” he said.

But the host added he had no judgement for people that do choose to go under the knife: “By the way I’m not against anything you do. You do what works for you,” he said.

Back when Chris was anchoring BBC Radio Two after taking over from Sir Terry Wogan, the host publicly admitted that he was starting to go bald.

In numerous segments on his BBC show, he confessed to taking hair loss pills to try and help his hair grow.

But the presenter suggested that they were working a little bit too well, saying: “I’m taking these pills to help my hair grow but it’s not only the hair on my head that’s growing.

He went on to compare himself to the notoriously hairy ex-Radio 1 DJ Dave Lee Travis.

Chris Evan’s Virgin Radio Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6.30am.
