Coronation Street’s Colson Smith, 22, who plays Craig Tinker in the popular ITV soap, has revealed how he’s in hot water with his new neighbours before he’s even moved in, after his house alarm was left ringing for hours on end. The star addressed the embarrassing situation in his podcast Sofa Cinema Club, which he presents with Corrie co-stars Ben Price and Jack P. Shepherd, as he confessed to already being his new neighbours’ “bad books” over the four-hour nuisance.
So I’ve not even moved in yet and I’m already going to be in the bad books
Speaking to his co-hosts, the actor revealed that he is currently renovating his new digs in Manchester after moving out of the flat he shared with Ben.
He said: “I have builders doing renovations on the house,” before adding that he was over 100 miles away at the time of the unfortunate incident.
“I was in Scarborough at cricket and cue a text message at 5.30pm from the neighbour of the house I’ve bought: ‘Hi Colson, just so you know the alarm is going off at the house,'” he added.
The red-headed actor explained that after talking to his builders, he believed that the issue had been sorted.
Colson continued: “The builders had set the alarm off, turned it off, and when they left turned it back on.
“So they had left and half an hour later the alarm goes back off.
“I spoke to the builders and they said, ‘Yeah, we’ve sorted it. It’s off.’ So I think there’s nothing to worry about,” he said confidently.
However, the star hadn’t heard the end of it from his neighbours, as four hours later he was alerted to the fact that the alarm was still ringing.
“Cue 9.30pm, neighbour rings – the alarm is still going off. I thought it had been sorted,” he confessed embarrassingly.
The Corrie actor revealed that after the builder left the property, the alarm started going off, leaving him to contact his mum to ask for her help.
Colson went on: “When the builders left the alarm wasn’t going off, but as they left they reconnected the power, which charged the alarm back up, so it set off again,
“I had to ring my mum at 9.30pm on a Saturday night.”
Naively, Colson admitted that he believed the resolution to be a “two-minute job”, but it soon turned out to be much more complicated than he thought.
“I said to her, ‘It’s a two-minute job when you get there, you just put the code in.”
However, things took a turn for the worse when the star realised that he didn’t know what the code was.
Colson continued to his co-hosts: “The worst thing was, I rang my mum when she was there and the sound of this alarm – it was so loud.
“People were coming from the other side of the field saying: ‘What’s going on with that alarm?'”
The star revealed that he apologised profusely to his new neighbours, not wanting to create bad blood between them before he had even moved in.
He explained: “The neighbour said to me: ‘I don’t mind,’ but she had ear defenders on.
“I was like: ‘You can’t live like this, it’s got to get turned off.’ So I’ve not even moved in yet and I’m already going to be in the bad books,” he confessed.
