From cousins to Clooneys: Who is and isn’t invited to the royal wedding
Meghan Markle’s extended family shouldn’t feel too bad about not scoring invites to the royal wedding — a slew of young British aristocrats were also snubbed, according to a report.
Prince Harry and his fiancée have invited 600 people to the May 19 service in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle but many of the children and grandchildren of the Queen’s cousins aren’t on the guest list, according to the Daily Mail.
Among the uninvited is Lady Amelia Windsor — hailed as “Britain’s Most Beautiful Royal” — who is 37th in line to the throne.
The 22-year-old model — who is signed to Storm, the same agency as Kate Moss and Delevingne — and her sister Marina, 25, are Prince William and Prince Harry’s third cousins – granddaughters of the Duke of Kent, who is the Queen’s cousin.
A friend of theirs told The Sun that the pair were “surprised” by the snub – especially since they attended William and Kate Middleton’s nuptials in 2011.
“They were a little surprised not to be invited as they were looking forward to going,” the friend said. “Amelia is creating quite a name for herself with her modeling and Instagram posts.”
The friend suggested to the outlet: “Perhaps Harry just wanted to keep the family invited to a small number or maybe he didn’t want anyone upstaging the bride.”
Others who didn’t score invites include Lord Frederick Windsor, 39, and Lady Gabriella Windsor, 37, the children of the Queen’s cousin Prince Michael. The Duke of Gloucester’s daughter, Lady Davina Lewis, 40, and her hubby were also snubbed.
“It’s quite shocking,” one insider told the Daily Mail. “The junior members of the family are invited to all big royal occasions.”
It’s especially striking considering the chapel can seat 800 — 200 people more than invited.
Over 2,000 members of the public are also invited on the day to the grounds of Windsor Castle, including 1,200 people who have demonstrated strong leadership in their communities.
On the other side, Markle’s mom will be her only family member, since her dad bowed out due to heart problems.
Still, the party promises to be a star-studded affair.
Tennis star Serena Williams is set to attend, as well as three of the five Spice Girls, Page Six reported. Markle’s BFF Priyanka Chopra and the “Suits” cast are also said to be on the guest list.
George and Amal Clooney will also be in attendance, Us Weekly reported.
