Destiny’s Child reunion was in the works ‘for months,’ Kelly Rowland says

Beyoncé fans still aren’t over the superstar’s historic Coachella performance — or the epic Destiny’s Child reunion that took place toward the end of the set. But spur-of-the-moment as the group’s three-song medley might’ve seemed, band member Kelly Rowland insists it was planned out well in advance.

“[Beyoncé] asked us early on — I can’t remember how early, but it was early. Months before,” Rowland, 37, told Page Six Thursday at an event for Schick Intuition’s new f.a.b. razor. “It wasn’t really hard to keep the secret, though, because I wanted it to be a surprise for the fans. I feel like to have [shown us] so much support and so much love over the years, they deserved it. They deserved that moment; it was all about them.”

Page Six was the first to report that Destiny’s Child would be performing together at Coachella; rumors had been swirling since late 2017, but Rowland publicly denied them. “I have no idea about any of that … it’s nothing that we recently talked about,” she told People in December.

And the R&B trio will soon have yet another reason to get together: for bandmate Michelle Williams’s wedding to pastor Chad Johnson. “We will definitely be involved — in what capacity, I don’t know,” Rowland said. “But Michelle is going to make the most beautiful bride; I’m so excited for her.”
