Trace Adkins invited Dustin Lynch to join the Grand Ole Opry during Lynch’s performance at the Opry’s on Tuesday night.
Adkins walked on to the stage and said, “I’m here to tell you that when you play here on Sept. 18, it will be as the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry. This is not something that is taken lightly around here.”
Lynch broke into tears in reply to the invitation. He recalled playing his debut single “Cowboys and Angels,” the first song he played at the Opry, on March 2, 2012. “I’ll never forget that day.”
The crowd later witnessed Adkins’ performance marking the 15th anniversary of his Grand Ole Opry induction.
The “Small Town Boy” singer will be officially inducted on September 18, following in the footsteps of recent inductees Chris Young and Chris Janson.
