EastEnders’ Adam Woodyatt warns over ‘scam’ after ads using his photos

EastEnders star Adam Woodyatt has warned his followers to "please be careful" on social media, as he shared that he's discovered a weight loss "scam" using his face and accounts pretending to be him.

The actor, who is best known for his role as Ian Beale in the long running BBC soap, shared the warning to his 108,000 Instagram followers.

Posting a screenshot of the advert in question, Adam wrote: "A friend saw this advert on Facebook or whatever it is called this year and sent it to me. It is 100% NOTHING to do with me.

"I’m also aware of several accounts pretending to be a personal or private account for me on Instagram, it doesn’t matter how many times we report or block them, another one pops up."

He continued: "I’m on Twitter and Facebook but rarely use them, this is the account that I use regularly although I don’t reply often to comments (I probably should interact a bit more than I do) and I never check messages. Please be careful on Social Media."

Adam's followers were quick to share their own experience with Instagram scams, with one writing: "I've had countless 'celebrities' messaging me from Prince Andrew to Keanu Reeves, all saying they are real. 'Keanu' even called me then said I was a devil child for not believing him. Always report and block."

Another added: "Had a private message making out they were your agent – it was a very strange message!" and a third wrote: "So many if them about! I had a DM from a sicko saying they were Elon Musk and wanted to help me out with a Bitcoin investment!"

Adam made is first appearance in EastEnders back in 1983 and appeared in the BBC for nearly four decades.

In 2020, it was announced that he was taking an "extended break" from Albert Square, and he went on to appear in I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! when the show was filmed in Wales.

Last year, he briefly returned to Walford as a dishevelled looking Ian secretly paid his respects to Dot Cotton under the cover of churchyard trees while the rest of the grievers huddled together at her graveside.

While bidding the inimitable Dot goodbye, he then answered a phone call with a noticeable amount of affection, promising he'd be home soon and referring to the as "love", with fans left wondering who this mysterious "love" could be.

"IAN AND JANE REUNITED I BEG #eastenders," tweeted one person, while many begged executive producer Chris Clenshaw to bring Ian's ex-wife Jane Beale back.

Another viewer said: "Still can’t believe that ian f*cking beale made a cameo at dot’s funeral and is potentially returning with jane next year."

Discussing the surprise return, a third person said: "We were hoping Ian would come back. Well done, #eastenders you can still surprise us."

And another added: "LOOOOOOOOL IAN CAME BACK IM SCREAMING #EastEnders."
