A look at the charts this week shows that rappers Machine Gun Kelly and Eminem have both done well as a result of their recent beef. Machine Gun Kelly’s diss track, “Rap Devil,” is already the second highest charting single of his career. However, his former idol and current rival, Eminem, still seems to have gotten the best out of him – especially in terms of chart success.
“Rap Devil” debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart last week at No. 13, the second highest placing of his career after “Bad Things,” his collab with Camila Cabello. In fact, “Rap Devil” is the only solo effort that MGK has ever had in his career that has charted. This week the single slipped a little, but is still holding at No. 22. And it looks likely that MGK’s new album, Binge – which will feature “Rap Devil” as a single – is likely to debut on the Billboard 200 chart next week
Pretty impressive chart performance. But Eminem’s diss track, “Killshot,” has performed even better. This week, “Killshot” debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the 20th top 10 hit of his career – and one of the biggest debuts of his career.
So, as is typical in hip hop, fueds fuel success. Just, in this case, what might be a bit unusual is how both rivals seemed to have benefitted so much. Even if Eminem ultimately edged out MGK on the sales front.
