Fans poke fun at Harry Kane after Mo Salah claims Golden Boot
Mo Salah picked up the Premier League’s Golden Boot on Sunday, but it wasn’t long before fans were tweeting about Harry Kane.
Liverpool’s Egyptian king scored the opener as the Reds hammered Brighton 4-0 at Anfield on Sunday, securing qualification for the Champions League.
Dejan Lovren, Dominic Solanke and Andy Robertson also found the net at Anfield – the latter pair notching their first goals for the club – but all attention was on Salah as he picked up the coveted award after the match.
"It is very special to be honest," said Salah when he received the award.
"It is always in my mind to help the team, and it was always in my mind to come back to England (after a disappointing spell at Chelsea)."
When asked if Salah will repeat his feat again next season, he joked: "I will, don’t worry", before adding "I’ll do my best."
Salah’s total of 32 goals is the most any player has ever scored in a 38-game Premier League season, and saw off the challenge of Kane who struck twice in Tottenham’s 5-4 win over Leicester to take his tally to 30.
And given the negative publicity created by Kane when he lobbied for, and succeeded in, getting the Premier League to award him a goal at Stoke which had been initially credited to Christian Eriksen, fans weren’t shy to make jokes.
Harsh? Or does Kane deserve the stick?
