What fans are saying about Gerrard’s Rangers move after Old Firm thrashing

Steven Gerrard should either lace up his boots or perform a U-turn after agreeing to be Rangers’ next manager.

That’s what some fans are saying after watching the Gers fall to a humiliating 5-0 defeat in Sunday’s Old Firm match against Celtic.

The Liverpool legend, who manages the Reds’ under-18s team, is set to accept the top job at Ibrox.

But several supporters have now urged him to reconsider.

Others suggested the 37-year-old should come out of retirement to play in midfield for the Scottish Premiership side.

And there were also those who were quick to highlight Liverpool’s close links with Rangers’ Glasgow rivals Celtic.

Gerrard is expected to take charge at Ibrox from the start of next season, taking another ex-Red, Gary McAllister with him as his assistant.

Rangers bosses had made it clear Gerrard was the number one choice, believing he has what it takes to stop Celtic winning eight league titles in a row.

If Gerrard does take the job, he’ll go head-to-head with former mentor Brendan Rodgers, now Celtic manager, as the Gers seek a record 55th league title.

He goes with the blessing of Kop boss Jurgen Klopp, who said: “If I was the owner of a club, I’d think about him. It’s his decision and we support him.”

Despite that blessing, the move has been met with a mixed reaction from fans.
