Freddie Prinze Jr. Is In The New Nancy Drew Pilot

Freddie Prinze Jr. is returning to television for the latest reboot (I know, I know, but it’s not like it’s The Facts Of Life) of Nancy Drew. Will 43-year-old Freddie be playing the teenage sleuth Nancy’s accomplice, nemesis or potential love interest? NO! He’s playing Nancy’s dad! It’s ok to cry. Time is happening to all of us. File this under: YOU’RE OLD.

The CW is taking on this latest Nancy Drew pilot, which is good news for those of you who like your teenage television programs with an extra helping of teenager. There’s not too much detail out about the show yet except this riveting excerpt from Deadline:

Prinze will play Nancy’s dad, Carson Drew, a dynamic attorney who has become estranged from Nancy following the recent death of his beloved wife. But his attempts to reconnect with his daughter run aground when Nancy’s murder investigation reveals unsettling secrets from Carson’s own past.

Scandalous! What possible unsettling secrets will Carson’s past hold? This is the CW, after all, so maybe Carson is also the father of Sabrina The Teenage Witch or is having a hot affair with one of the Riverdale chicks. Anything is possible and Nancy will get to the bottom of it!

The CW is like the Pet Sematary where 80s and 90s teens go to be resurrected, and Freddie’s in good company with the other Teen Beat models of our youth including Skeet Ulrich, Madchen Amick, Molly Ringwald and, until recently, may his gorgeous soul forever rest in peace, Luke Perry.

Nancy Drew is Freddie’s first on camera role since 2010 when 24 ended, so for those of you that aren’t religiously following your Sarah Michelle Geller + Freddie Prinze Jr. 4EVA fan pages might be shocked by Freddie’s sudden mature adult-like appearance. Do not be alarmed. You have also aged.

Other DILFS to have played Carson Drew have included Sam Trammell from True Blood (I would) and Tate Donovan (Jennifer Aniston did).

C’mon, CW, don’t fuck this Nancy Drew up! Bring us some new Hardy Boys as nasty and hot as their 70s counterparts Parker Stevenson and Shaun Cassidy, feathered hair and tight buns in polyester slacks and all. Make Nancy a no bullshit little punk who takes things by the balls. And make Freddie… well, Freddie’s just happy to be there. Give him some lines and and a good stylist and we’ll be happy to have him join in with the rest of the cast.
