Sinead O’Connor has revealed she had a “lovely” send-off for her son Shane who tragically died last week aged just 17. The singer held a Hindu ceremony for her son and said she left a few packets of cigarettes in his coffin “in case there’s none in heaven”.
Speaking after the ceremony, Sinead informed her 48,000 Twitter followers: “We just said goodbye to our beautiful angel, Shaney.
“Very lovely Hindu ceremony. Shane will have loved it. He was always chanting ‘Om. Shanti’.
“I put a few packs of fags in the coffin for him in case there’s none in heaven.
“He’ll have loved that too. Om. Shanti.” (sic)
The word “Shanti” is the Hindi word for peace.

Sinead announced Shane’s death in the early hours of January 8 writing that he “decided to end his earthly struggle and is now with God”.
Shane had been reported missing two days before his death.
His mother said in a string of now-deleted tweets that Shane had been on “suicide watch” at a Dublin hospital after trying to take his own life twice in the space of a week.
Shane is Sinead’s second-youngest child. She also has Jake, 34, Roisin, 25, and youngest son Yeshua, 14.
Following her son’s death, Sinead took the opportunity to send a heartfelt message to Shane’s father, musician Donal Lunny.
She tweeted: “Thank Shane’s father, Donal Lunny. You did your best too, Donal. And Shane adored you.
“I will always remember how sweet you have been to him. You have been a lovely father. I am so sorry for your loss.”
