Graeme Souness reveals why Liverpool shouldn’t worry about Cristiano Ronaldo

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has claimed Cristiano Ronaldo is past his best ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final.

The Reds take on Real Madrid in Kiev bidding for a sixth European crown, while Los Blancos are looking to secure a third title in succession.

Ronaldo has had another fruitful season in front of goal, finding the net 44 times in just 43 appearances in all competitions so far.

But Scot Souness, who skippered Liverpool to their 1984 European triumph, believes the Portuguese and his side are on the way down.

“He spends a lot of time on his bum now, complaining he’s been fouled, and plays the width of the box," he said.

“He’s still capable of great things but, like Real, nowhere near where he was even 12 months ago.”

Real head into the final on the back of a 2-2 with Villarreal on Saturday.

They finished the league campaign third, a whopping 17 points behind El Clasico rivals Barcelona, and will have had only a week rest compared to a fortnight for Liverpool ahead of Saturday’s showpiece.
