Guardiola reveals surprise England player he idolised

Pep Guardiola has revealed he worshipped Matt Le Tissier as a boy.

The Manchester City manager teed up with the Southampton legend, European No.1 Tommy Fleetwood and Peter Schmeichel in the pro-am at the BMW PGA at Wentworth today.

The Spaniard said: "It is a beautiful course. I am a 12-handicapper but I didn’t play to that today. It is a lovely golf course but for professionals.

"It was a pleasure to play with Matt Le Tissier – one of my idols when I was a young boy.

"And of course play with a pro like Tommy Fleetwood – how good he is you cannot imagine. When you are there, you realise.

"It was a good morning."

Guardiola loves golf. He attended the 2012 Ryder Cup in Medinah when fellow Spaniard Jose Maria Olazabal was European captain and played in a pro-am with Rory McIlroy in Northern Ireland last year.

"They invite me, I come," he said. "But I feel every season is getting worse. I don’t play during the season. Someone has to work."

Is Pep Guardiola the best manager in the Premier League?
