Jane McDonald’s fiance Eddie Rothe died lin March after a short battle with lung cancer. Reflecting on her grief, the 58-year-old singer has vowed to live her life “even more” when allowed to do so. As part of her new Cruising series, the presenter takes some of close friends along with her to celebrate their birthdays.
She said: “To be able to take my closest friends on such an amazing trip was very emotional.
“If we know anything about what has happened in this past year, it’s that life is too short.
“We all think, ‘I’d better not spend that’ but I tell you something, I’m going to spend a lot and I’m going to have the best time because you just don’t know when you’re going to be able to do it again.”
The singer hopes her series will inspire others to do the same with their loved ones.
“I hope that people see what we were doing on that cruise and think, ‘I want to do that with my family or my closest friends’, because it is an extremely special thing to do, to spend quality time with people that you love,” she added to the Mirror.
The current series will be Jane’s last as she recently revealed she will be leaving to focus on other opportunities.
She said in a statement: “I have had the most amazing time and I thank Channel 5.
“It has been wonderful, it really, really has.
“I have a joy and passion for cruising which is why, leave the party when you’re having fun.”
Jane’s series comes amid the news that her husband-to-be died from cancer.
A statement from her official Twitter page confirmed he died in March.

“He had been battling lung cancer for the last few months.
“We would like to thank everyone for all their help and support during this very difficult time, especially the NHS staff and the wonderful team at The Wakefield Hospice.

The pair first dated as teenagers after meeting in a Wakefield nightclub, where Jane worked.
They later went their separate ways but reunited on the off chance when he was a guest on This Morning.
At the time, she was a panellist on Loose Women. The couple got engaged in 2008.
