How old is Jay Blades?

Jay Blades was born on February 21, 1970, which makes the presenter 50-years-old.

In the past, Jay has spoken candidly of his childhood and growing up.

He told Express.co.uk back in April: “My mum single-handedly brought up two boys in a very poor environment. But she made sure we had food on the table.”

He went on to talk of how his passion for repairing furniture came along.

The Repair Shop star added: “We were so poor we never really bought any furniture.

“Me and my brother were always making and repairing things. But it has made me who I am now.”

Jay rose to fame in 2017 after The Repair Shop first hit our screens.

However, it was not his first appearance in our screens as he was previously featured on Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas craft show in 2014.

He has since spoken of why The Repair Shop has become so popular, saying: “Until recently, we have lived in a society where there isn’t much kindness, especially when it comes to TV.

“There have been a lot of TV shows that take the mickey out of people.

“They focus on someone who can’t sing, they’re put on stage and laughed at. It’s not very nice.”

He added: “The Repair Shop is all about being kind to one another.

“It follows a team of people who come together to do something for someone.

“It creates a really nice memory and it shows that we should all be supporting each other. It’s feel-good TV – and we need that more than ever right now.”

While appearing on This Morning last year, Jay also spoke of the show’s popularity.

Jay said: “I think it has become popular because a lot of people want to be a part of something that feels like a community.

“I’m not saying shows don’t do that, but at the repair show we have got such a family kind of ethos within the repair shop, and i think that oozes through the screen as well.”

Jay has also regularly presents on Money for Nothing having first joined the show in 2015.

Earlier this year, Jay also appeared in his own series Jay Blades’ Home Fix where he helped the nation with their own DIY projects.

Money for Nothing will continue today on BBC One at 3.45pm.
