They’re two of the most in-demand models of the moment, and have stormed countless catwalks in recent weeks.

Yet even Kaia Gerber and Adwoa Aboah were no doubt surprised by the break in convention for the Chanel Spring/Summer 2019 show during Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday, which saw the models shun their typically towering high heels in favour of going barefoot.

Proving why they are the best in the business, however, the duo still managed to look ethereal as they made their way across the sand-covered floor of The Grand Palais des Champs-Élysées for Karl Lagerfeld’s By The Sea themed show.

Stunning: Adwoa oozed confidence on the Chanel runway as she stepped out in a plunging black blazer with matching cropped trousers. The 26-year-old model also donned two cross body bags worn slung over either shoulder

Pucker up: Her look was finished off by a slick of hot pink lipstick that lined her enviably plump pout

Keeping her cool: Despite her picture-perfect confidence, Adwoa confessed she previously struggled with ‘trying to be someone else’ before she embraced her individuality

Working it! The models were seen storming the sand and water covered runway, whilst guests had been advised to go wear flat shoes for the presentation so that they wouldn’t struggle to make it to their seats

It came as no surprise to see Karl Lagerfeld picked Kaia to walk the runway for the third time under his watch, as the duo recently collaborated on a clothing collection together.

Kaia’s collaboration with Karlwas first announced at the start of this year, with Pier Paolo Righi, chief executive officer of Karl Lagerfeld, said the brand is excited by the venture.

In a statement, Pier said: ‘When Karl first told us his idea to collaborate with Kaia, we were all excited by the incredible potential and power of bringing their two worlds together.

‘We have been working intensely over the last months with Kaia in LA and at our studio in Paris. It was exciting to see her clear vision, passion and engagement, and the collection will definitely inspire many young women.’

Storming the runway: The models stepped out in an array of colourful ensembles that went well with the by the sea theme

Billowing: Karl’s latest designs moved away from Chanel’s traditional tailored looks in favour of more whimsical looks

Watching over them: Overseeing the presentation was Chanel’s head creative director Karl Lagerfeld, who recently caused controversy with his comments about the #MeToo movement

All together now: The models seemed to be in high spirits as they stepped out hand in hand to close the show, with some even daring to dip their feet in the water as they made a final lap of the catwalk

Life’s a beach: Karl had imagined a sandy beachscape stretching out under azure-colored skies and that’s what he got

Since making her runway debut back in September 2017 for Calvin Klein when she was just 16, Kaia has since walked for various brands including the likes of Stella McCartney, Valentino and Moschino.

Discussing how she juggles life as a student and international model, Kaia told Harper’s Bazaar in January: ‘I usually use the afternoon to catch up on homework.

‘I’m completing my diploma at Malibu High through an online program, and it’s difficult to get much done during the week, as the Wi-Fi on planes is really annoying.

‘My favourite class this year is AP Calculus because I just like math. It’s definitely super hard to teach yourself derivatives, though!’

All together now: The models stayed close to one another as they made their way along the sand covered catwalk

Three’s company: The models looked in jovial spirits as they held hands and skipped along the indoor shoreline

Paint it black: Whilst many of the garments were colourful and billowing, some models donned all-black on the runway

On the move: The audience were transfixed as the models stormed the runway in their colourful ensembles

Meanwhile, Adwoa Aboah has become the darling of the fashion world since she was chosen to grace the cover of Edward Enniful’s first edition of British Vogue in December, dubbed New Vogue.

Despite her picture-perfect confidence, Adwoa confessed she previously struggled with ‘trying to be someone else’ before she embraced her individuality.

She told VOGUE in April: ‘I was unsure of myself, and lost, a young girl who had no idea who she was. I spent hours flattening and straightening it until one day, when I moved to Lose Angeles after treatment, I just shaved it all off.

‘I was just so bored of the continuous struggle of trying to be someone else.’

Out in force: Despite Karl Lagerfeld’s controversial comments about the #MeToo movement, the stars were out on force to watch the SS19 presentation, with his muse, Pamela Anderson, 51, heading to the FROW barefoot

A dream in cream: Pamela looked incredible wearing an all-cream ensemble, consisting of a frilly blouse tucked into a bouclé blouse and worn under a matching longline jacket

Sitting pretty: She carried a coveted quilted white bag by the fashion house in her hand and completed her look with a pair of nude slingback heels with black toes

Yet despite her concerns, Adwoa oozed confidence on the Chanel runway as she stepped out in a plunging black blazer with matching cropped trousers.

The 26-year-old model also donned two cross body bags worn slung over either shoulder whilst she carried a pair of black flip flops in her hand.

Her look was finished off by a slick of hot pink lipstick that lined her enviably plump pout.

Two’s company: Pamela sat alongside Pharrell Williams on the front row of the show as they watched the models storm past

Pucker up: Pharrell arrived at the show with his wife Helen Lasichanh and tenderly planted a kiss on her cheek

Cosy couple: Pharell and Helen put on a smitten display as they cosied up to one another before finding their seats

Overseeing the presentation was Chanel’s head creative director Karl Lagerfeld, who recently caused controversy with his comments about the #MeToo movement.

He sent shockwaves earlier this year when he revealed that he is ‘fed up’ with models and actresses speaking up about the sexual harassment they have faced over the years.

In an interview with French magazine Numéro, the designer suggested that models should know what they are getting into, while defending former Interview magazine creative director Karl Templer, who has been accused of ‘aggressively’ pulling down models’ underwear without asking them.

‘If you don’t want someone pulling down your panties, don’t become a model,’ he said. ‘Join a nunnery, there’ll always be a place for you in the convent. They’re recruiting even!’ he said.

Casual yet chic: Poppy Delevingne and Vanessa Paradis both abided by the advice they wear flats, and opted for all black ensembles as they attended the glitzy show

Fit for royalty! Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana turned out in a glamorous gown with a thigh high split teamed with a boucle jacket that she slung over her shoulders

He added: ‘I read somewhere that now, you have to ask models whether they feel comfortable when they are posing,’ he said. ‘That’s opening the door to anything. From then on, as a creator, you don’t do anything anymore.’

The designer said he didn’t believe a ‘single word’ of the accusations against Templer, noting that ‘a girl is complaining that he pulled on her panties and he gets excommunicated from an industry that, until then, worshiped him.’

Fashion photographers Mario Testino and Bruce Weber have also been accused of sexual misconduct this year, while Kate Upton called out Guess founder Paul Marciano for ‘sexually and emotionally harassing women.’

But Karl has taken issue with the fact that that many of the women are sharing their stories of sexual harassment decades after it happened.

Storming the sand: The models looked sensational as they stormed along the runway together in a colourful group

Two of a kind: Models proved that black doesn’t have to be boring as they stormed the catwalk

Wet wet wet: One model braved walking in the water, but she was well-equipped as she donned a raincoat and mini skirt

Dancing on the sand: The models strolled along the sand in their glamorous ensembles as they danced along the runway

Beautiful in beige: Some of the models matched the runway with their sand hued outfits

Despite the controversial comments, the stars were out on force to watch the SS19 presentation, with Karl’s muses, Pamela Anderson, 51, and Vanessa Paradis, 45, heading to the FROW.

Pamela looked incredible wearing an all-cream ensemble, consisting of a frilly blouse tucked into a bouclé blouse and worn under a matching longline jacket.

She carried a coveted quilted white bag by the fashion house in her hand and completed her look with a pair of nude slingback heels with black toes.

Her long blonde locks were styled into loose curls which fell down past her shoulders and she wore dark sunglasses.

Tantalising in tweed: Anna Wintour ensured all eyes would be on her as she donned a pink co-ord with brown heeled boots

Stunning: Ross McCall and Alessandra Mastronardi made a stylish pair on the outing, with Alessandra rocking a glamorous grey dress with heeled white ankle boots

Glamorous gals: Mia Goth (L) dazzled in a baby blue tweed dress whilst Adut Akech teamed a patterned coat with leggings

Dressed to impress: (L-R) Caroline de Maigret, Ines de la Fressange and Soo Joo Park looked sensational at the show

Sand-covered floor for Karl Lagerfeld’s By The Sea themed show

Vanessa looked casually chic wearing a neutral coloured top over black skinny jeans and with a military inspired jacket.

She wore ankle boots and posed with her hands in her pockets as she stood in front of a beachy backdrop.

Both ladies ignored the dress code to wear flats to the occasion, which had a sandy floor, with Pammy opting to go barefoot at one point.

Suited and booted! After storming the runway, Kaia looked sensational as she left the show clad in an oversized navy suit that she teamed with a plain white T-shirt and a pair of grey and black trainers

Shady lady! Kaia accessorised with a pair of pink tinted sunglasses, whilst she also rocked a pair of gold hooped earrings and a delicate chain necklace. She kept the hair and make-up she had rocked on the runway
