Hugo Lloris has warned his France side are now the complete team heading into Sunday’s World Cup final.
Didier Deschamps’ star-studded team used their defensive strength to squeeze the life out of Belgium’s attacking firepower in Tuesday’s semi-final.
Centre-back Samuel Umtiti grabbed the winner, and Les Bleus wasted several chances to make the win even more emphatic.
Having seen his side beaten by Portugal in the European Championship final two years ago, Lloris is taking nothing for granted ahead of Sunday’s showpiece. He is adamant, however, that he and his team-mates are better shape than they were then.
Keeper and captain Lloris, who pulled off an outstanding first-half save from Tottenham team-mate Toby Alderweireld, said: “I think we are quite complete as a team.
“We can play in different ways, in different styles. But the most important thing is that all the players are involved to help the team.
“Our defenders both scored – Raphael [Varane] against Uruguay and Samuel [Umtiti against Belgium], that puts even more credit in their performances. Defensively, they have been fantastic and they can make the differences on set-pieces so that’s a big help for the team.
“It’s an amazing feeling but we already lost a final two years ago and that’s why we need to stay with our feet on the floor.
“It’s important to keep the belief because the belief is strong in our team. But there is still one game to play and it’s maybe the most important of our career.
Despite the pain of losing that Euro 2016 decider, Lloris reckons the longer recovery period between the World Cup semi-final and Sunday Final that France now have could prove the difference.
The Spurs skipper explained on Tuesday night: “If I remember well, we played on Thursday in the semi-final against Germany and then the final on the Sunday, so we had less time to recover. That is not the case this time.
“We have time to enjoy, to recover and to prepare the next game as well as possible. This is our target. We will see tomorrow who we are going to face and we will be ready for this next fight.
“Most of the players, they were not at the Euro. There has been a lot of change between both competitions but for the players who were involved, yes, we can use our experience to show the right way to the young lads.”
