TV actress Lori Loughlin and her fashion-designer hubby were among nearly a dozen parents slapped with additional bribery charges Tuesday stemming from the nationwide college admissions scandal, authorities said.
The extra charge — conspiracy to commit federal programs bribery — is still tied to the original case against the celebrity pair: that they allegedly shelled out $500,000 in bribes to get their daughters into the University of Southern California.
But the fact that the feds pushed for an additional rap — and a grand jury in Boston just delivered it to them — appears to indicate prosecutors’ attempts to heap on stiffer penalties for defendants choosing to continue to fight their cases instead of copping to plea deals, as several others already have.
Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, are already facing charges of wire fraud and money laundering.
