Lynda Baron dead – Open All Hours and EastEnders star passes away age 82

Lynda Baron has passed away at the age of 82, her agent has announced.

Lynda was best known for her appearance on the sitcom Open All Hours, where she starred alongside Sir David Jason and Ronnie Barker as Nurse Gladys Emmanuel.

Her agent of nearly 30 years Dawn French told PA: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved client Lynda Baron.

"She was a wonderful actress and a great friend.

"Her iconic roles of Nurse Gladys in Open All Hours and Aunt Mabel in Come Outside were loved by all generations.

"Renowned for her leading roles in West End musicals and dramatic productions alike, we have lost a leading light of our world.

"We extend our deepest condolences to her daughter Sarah, her son Morgan and all her family."

Lynda's role on Open All Hours ran across all four series from 1976 to 1985.

She even returned to the show for its spin off Still Open All Hours.

But, her work didn't just entertain the older generations as Lynda also starred in the beloved children's programme Come Outside as Auntie Mabel, where she and her dog Pippin would go on adventures.

The actress also appeared on EastEnders as Linda Clarke, Jane Beale's mother.

She first appeared on Albert Square in November 2006 for two episodes and then come back to Walford for regular appearances from November 2008 to 2009 and once again from May 2016 until June that year.

Lynda was nominated for a Bafta in 2011 for her role in The Road To Coronation Street, a BBS Four one-off drama about the early days of the soap.

Tributes to the talented actress have already begun pouring in.

Former EastEnders actor Stuart Antony wrote: "Saddened to hear wonderful friend Lynda Baron has sadly passed away. She was the nicest person and what a legend. Here we are with Su Pollard just before lockdown – RIP Lynda Baron".

While a fan said: "RIP Lynda Baron you made my childhood thank you. Hope you’re high up in the sky with pippin xx".
