Manchester United could well have an unrecognisable starting line up for their opening Premier League fixture against Leicester.
Jose Mourinho’s men kick off their 2018/19 campaign next Friday at Old Trafford, but the clash comes off the back of a mixed pre-season.
United drew three games, lost one and won one – their sole victory come against Real Madrid on Tuesday evening.
The Red Devils did a tour of the United States, but many of the senior squad players were missing because of their post-World Cup holidays.
England stars Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Phil Jones and Ashley Young all got to the last four – as did Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini with Belgium. Paul Pogba of course won the competition with France.
David De Gea, Nemanja Matic, Victor Lindelof, Marcos Rojo and new boy Fred were all handed extra time off by the United boss.
As a result, seven youngsters were included in his squad – including Mason Greenwood, 16, Tahith Chong, 18, and Angel Gomes, 17.
And with Nemanja Matic, Diogo Dalot and Antonio Valencia all out through injury, and Anthony Martial fined by the club for not returning to training, some youngsters may be involved against Leicester on August 13.
Mourinho has been handed a boost, however, with Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku and Phil Jones all returning from their vacations three days early.
However, the fixture may come too soon for them in terms of fitness.
Here is how United could line up for their opening clash with Leicester.
