Man Utd back in for Diego Godin after it’s revealed he NEVER signed new contract

Atletico Madrid are desperately trying to tie down Diego Godin to a new contract – to fend off renewed interest from Manchester United .

Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho wanted Godin last summer but ended up getting nowhere, yet United are still interested for next summer.

However, Atletico are now keen to tie down the 32-year-old to a longer deal as the player’s future has long been shrouded in uncertainty.

Godin and his representatives rejected United despite interest in a £20m deal and despite talks with Atletico he never actually signed a fresh contract.

But reports in Spain suggest that Godin is now in advanced negotiations with Atletico with United watching developments closely.

United had hoped to get Godin for a knockdown price because of his age but he is still widely regarded as the best centre half in the world.

Mourinho is also keen on a January loan deal for Chelsea’s out-of-favour Gary Cahill who is frustrated at a lack of first team football.

The Blues are prepared to sanction Cahill’s temporary exit with boss Maurizio Sarri unable to offer the 32 year-old enough game time to keep him happy.

The experienced defender has only made six appearances this season and played just 21 minutes in the Premier League — all of them coming in one run-out as a substitute.
