Matt Baker: BBC star confirms Countryfile news in Instagram video ‘Keep you posted’

Matt Baker, 42, filmed himself walking along a canal today as he began shooting once more on popular show Countryfile. The star looked upbeat as he smiled to the camera wearing a khaki cap and sunglasses despite the dull British weather.

For the first time in a long time

He said: “Good morning everyone, I’m back on the country farm for the first time in a long time, doing a piece down the Grand Union Canal today.

“So parked my motor about a mile back there and I’m enjoying a beautiful walk alongside the reservoirs.”

Panning the camera around to show the canal, he added: “We’ll be doing a lot of these locks today. Keep you posted.”

The presenter has recently been spending lots of quality time on his Hertfordshire farm with his wife and children.

He has been sharing snaps with delighted fans throughout the lockdown period.

A cute snapshot uploaded to Instagram showed Matt’s cat curled up on the sofa.

He captioned the photo: “Perfect way to start Sunday with my cat – what are your plans for today?” 

Fans were quick to respond with their appreciation of the cat-friendly post.

One wrote: “How sweet does he or she look? Real stunning cat.” 

Another wrote: “She looks very chilled.” 

A third added: “Aww, what a beautiful cat.”

At the end of March, Matt left The One Show after co-hosting the programme alongside Alex Jones for nine years.

His decision to step down has enabled him to spend more time at home and tuck his children into bed.

He told the BBC at the time: “I’ve loved that the One Show has been such a big part of my life for the last nine years.

“It’s been brilliant to showcase the eclectic mix of Britain, meet incredible people along the way and witness so many lives changed with the annual Rickshaw Challenge for Children in Need.”

Before going on to thank viewers for their enduring support, as they likely questioned if he would remain on screens.

“I’d like to thank all those I’ve worked with over the years and especially you the viewer for showing me so much support during my time on the green sofa.”

Matt added: “I’m continuing with Countryfile and BBC Sport and excited about other opportunities that come my way but most of all I’m looking forward to having dinner with my family and being able to put my kids to bed.”

Countryfile airs on BBC at 7pm on Sunday.
