Meghan Markle Was Surprised to Run Into a ‘Suits’ Fan on Heritage Day in South Africa

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are currently in the midst of their long-awaited royal tour of Africa. On Tuesday, September 24, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a stop in the Bo-Kaap area in Cape Town to celebrate Heritage Day with local residents.

Heritage Day is celebrated every September 24 and is a public holiday in South Africa. The day recognizes the cultural wealth of the country. Residents celebrate the day by donning traditional dress, eating traditional foods, attending performances and sharing oral histories.

One oral history Meghan did not expect to hear on Heritage Day was the recent history of Suits fans in South Africa, but that’s what she got .

During a visit to the home of a local resident named Shamiela Sanioden for tea and food with local residents, one woman took the opportunity to let Meghan know she’s a big fan of the former actress’ USA legal drama.

“It was a very relaxed conversation, [Harry and Meghan are] very informal, which made it nice and easy for us in the house. It didn’t feel like having royalty in the house, they’re very down to earth, they were so lovely,” Sanioden told BAZAAR.com. “One of the ladies told Meghan they had been watching her on her TV show [Suits] and she was surprised to hear about that. She said she was happy that they enjoyed it.”

Who says you shouldn’t meet your TV heroes…at least if said hero is Meghan Markle, anyway.
