Michael Bloomberg ‘bewildered’ by #MeToo, says new book
Mike Bloomberg appeared smitten with a leggy blonde at a gala while dating longtime love Diana Taylor, a new book claims.
The former NYC mayor — who’s said to be “bewildered” by #MeToo — trailed the lady around at a bash for the Citizens Union public interest group in 2013. After accepting an award, “The Many Lives of Michael Bloomberg” reports that he spotted a “tall blond woman in a small huddle of people,” adding: “The mayor maneuvered himself so that he passed by the makeshift receiving line, he could give her a hug, a kiss on each cheek. Then he moved a little to shake hands with a few admirers. Then he came back to the blonde. Another hug, two more kisses. He even seemed to be angling for a third round when the blonde suddenly moved on — out of reach.”
It was at a Citizens Budget Commission lunch in 2000 that the billionaire met Taylor. Author Eleanor Randolph also writes that Bloomberg can be cold: “Too often Bloomberg seemed to treat [Diana] like a politically appropriate appendage, as far as some of his friends, especially female friends, were concerned. They talked of painful dinners with Bloomberg using Diana as a foil for his heavy-duty humor. Mostly in public, he gave her an easier time, and she was a perfect substitute first lady for his time as mayor — always there, smiling at even the most tedious public event.”
The book — out Sept. 10 — says Bloomberg comes from an era “when women evolved from docile or fake-docile homebodies into corporate tycoons … Like many men in his generation, Bloomberg would eventually seem bewildered by the so-called Me Too movement.”
A Bloomberg rep said: “We think people should read the book for themselves and see why it’s been called a ‘first-rate study of leadership’ across business, politics and philanthropy.”
