Michelle Visage says ‘heartbeat became irregular’ and ‘health declined’ from breast implants

RuPaul's Drag Race star Michelle Visage, 53, says her heart started beating irregularly just two years after getting breast implants.

The mum-of-two opened up to OK! about why she decided to get her implants removed, stating her "health had been declining for years."

The star has filmed a documentary, tiled Explant, about her decision to have her breast implants removed and meets with women experiencing similar conditions.

Michelle told OK!: "There is so much misinformation out there about the safety of breast implants and there are hundreds of thousands of sick women who are told they are crazy and they are "healthy" when they know damn well that they are none of the above!

"I wanted to empower both women who want implants and those who believe they have Breast Implant Illness to know that they are not alone and that this illness is real. The ones that still want implants just need to have all the information so they can make an informed decision before getting them. Explant is not anti plastic surgery but rather pro transparency."

Discussing why she got her implants removed, the Drag Race judge explained: "My health had been declining for years, actually within the first two years of getting implants my heart started beating irregularly and then slowly I developed an autoimmune condition and soon….after 20 plus years of chasing my health it dawned on me!

"I asked a few of my doctors but they of course told me no, that implants are healthy and approved by the FDA so it is not them and to not take them out. It was only in the last six years or so that my gut told me that it was my implants because it was the only thing left. and I was right."

On Breast Implant Illness, Healthline explains: "Getting breast implants can change a person’s life for the better. But in recent years, some people have suspected that their breast implants have made them very ill with diseases.

"Older studies showed no clear scientific evidence connecting these conditions to breast implants — silicone or saline-filled. However, newer studies from different sources have found an association between silicone breast implants and certain autoimmune diseases."
