Nick Lachey has said "we have all moved on" in response to his ex-wife Jessica Simpson's shocking new memoir, in which she shares candid details about their former marriage.
The former member of boy band 98 degrees, 46, also said he hasn't read the memoir Open Book, which is out this week and has already been getting a lot of press coverage due to Jessica's extremely open revelations about her secret childhood sexual abuse trauma and turning to pills and alcohol to cope.
Former pop princess Jessica and Nick were married from 2002 to 2006, and starred on the popular US reality show Nick and Jessica: Newlyweds, a fly-on-the-wall look at their high profile relationship.
"He was my first love," Jessica, 39, said recently.
"We were young and pioneering our way through reality television, always mic’d and always on."
The now wife of former football star Eric Johnson and mother of their three children continued: "We worked and we were great at it but when it came time to being alone, we weren’t great at it anymore."
However, Nick who has said that he wasn't aware that Simpson was writing a book and hasn't read it, doesn't hold any grudges, and said: "There’s definitely a mutual respect there, so that’s, you know — obviously it was a long time ago."
Nick has indeed moved on and has since also remarried to fellow TV presenter Vanessa Lachey, who he met on a music video set in 2006. They married in 2011 and have two children.
Nick spoke up during an interview with US TV's Today Show, on which he appeared with Vanessa to promote their new Netflix dating show Love is Blind. Despite Nick insisting there was no bad vibes, there was still an awkward moment for the pair when host Hoda Kotb referred to a gift they had allegedly bought Jessica for the birth of one of her kids, and Nick and Vanessa appeared confused.
"It wasn’t us, but thank you, whoever sent it from us," said Vanessa, adding: "I didn’t. I don’t know her address."
Despite the mix-up and Jess spilling secrets on their time together in her new book, like her ex-husband, Jessica also wants to keep things cordial with her ex, telling US magazine PEOPLE that she and Nick “meant a lot to each other and we always will.”
"I want to be very respectful because I married him for a reason and we were together for seven years for a reason," she explained.
"He has a family now and I would never say anything to disrespect that."
