Mo Salah "doesn’t look happy" at Liverpool and could join Real Madrid in January.
That is the view of Paul Merson, who thinks the Reds would be powerless to stand in their star man’s way if he wants to leave.
The Arsenal legend was speaking after Salah, 26, became the fastest player to reach 50 goals for Liverpool , managing the impressive feat in just 65 appearances.
Salah, who had been somewhat below par in the opening part of the season, has scored three times in his last two outings.
He bagged a brace against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Wednesday, days after notching the deciding goal in his team’s 1-0 win over Huddersfield in the Premier League.
But Merson reckons he could leave for the La Liga giants in the next transfer window.
In his Daily Star column, he said Salah’s goals record was "phenomenal", but added that it was "only a matter of time" before Real came calling.
He said: "How can they not? They need to do something big and they will want him in January. They are struggling like mad. If Salah wanted to go, Liverpool would be powerless to stop him.
"I can’t remember the last player to say ‘no’ to Real Madrid or Barcelona . It’s another level. Salah doesn’t look happy at Liverpool at the moment and we’ve seen this before.
"If you take his goals away they’re not title contenders any more. Liverpool fans have seen big players leave before. They would be fuming if Salah left too."
If Salah did join Real, he would line up alongside Sergio Ramos, the player blamed for injuring his shoulder in the Champions League final back in May.
But Merson does not think the "bad blood" between the pair would stop any such move happening.
He added: "But I wouldn’t be shocked if Real Madrid make a big bid in January, and you know how these things work, there might already be some contact."
