I'm not one to subscribe to the idea that boyfriends, fiancés, husbands and other partners who may not be interested in cosmetics should be commended for their bravery when they tag along with their beauty-loving significant others on trips to Sephora. That's not what makes Pete Davidson's recent excursion with his betrothed, Ariana Grande, to the cosmetics boutique such a clear reflection that this is no fly-by-night infatuation. No, it's the fact that Grande has literally no reason to put up with the fan and paparazzi crush that inevitably comes with shopping in a crowded Manhattan Sephora — the woman can more or less snap her fingers and get any beauty product she wants, probably for free — and yet Davidson not only happily tolerated the outing, he helped make it what appeared to be an especially fun experience for both of them. That, my friends, is love.
Petiana, as social media has dubbed the couple — though I've been rooting for the portmanteau Grandson since they went public — was spotted visiting a New York City Sephora on Friday and having way more fun than I knew to be possible in a Sephora, which is really saying something considering that, as a beauty editor, it's my grown-up version of a McDonald's Play Place. Videos posted to Instagram by paparazzi and fan accounts show that, in addition to browsing, Grande and Davidson toyed with the photographers and videographers stationed outside the store by goofing around in the aisles, popping up over the displays in different poses.
Grande herself even posted a video of their antics on her Instagram Story, which was reposted by a number of fan accounts on Instagram and Twitter. It shows her and Davidson crouched down in front of the Benefit Cosmetics section, rising up in unison while making hand signals at the cameras peering in the windows.
The photos and videos taken at Sephora on Friday also show that Grande is sporting an interesting new addition to her signature high ponytail. There appears to be a braid or twist down the center of her head, and it's decorated with a row of silver rings. It may seem like an unusually elaborate style for a spin around Sephora, but in the context of the rest of her outfit, which was seemingly just a windbreaker and over-the-knee suede boots, I think it's safe to say that when it comes to shopping-trip looks, Grande isn't adhering to any unspoken rules — much like in her love life.
