Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's New Royal Titles Have Finally Been Revealed

When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got engaged, the overwhelming reaction was excitement. Not only was everyone’s favorite Suits star tying the knot, but the world’s favorite royal (don’t @ me) had finally found love. Still, one question remained on the minds of fans: What will Meghan Markle’s title be? Naturally, the decision was up to Queen Elizabeth II, and now the icon has spoken: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shall be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Saturday, May 19 is a big day for Harry, and not just because he’s becoming Mr. Markle. After the ceremony, he will have not one, but three official titles.

“The Queen has today been pleased to confer a Dukedom on Prince Henry of Wales,” shared a rep from Buckingman Palace. “His titles will be Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel. Prince Harry thus becomes His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex, and Ms. Meghan Markle on marriage will become Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex.”

According to E! News, the preceding Duke of Sussex was married twice, but because neither marriage was approved by his father, Markle is the first official Duchess of Sussex ever.

Sweet deal, lady.

As we know, marrying a member of the British royal family comes with great responsibility. As the new Duchess of Sussex, Markle will be granted a unique platform to continue with her activism and charitable gestures. The titles of duke and duchess are the highest a monarch can bestow.

If the Queen had decided not to re-title Harry and his new bride, Markle would have been known as Princess Harry of Wales.

We like the Duchess of Sussex just fine, don’t you?
