Queen Latifah To Receive Marian Anderson Award

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney announced that Queen Latifah will be honored with the Marian Anderson Award.

While announcing the award, Kenny described Latifah as “an excellent role model and clearly well-deserving of this prestigious honor.”

The award was instituted in 1998 and was named after the great Philadelphian and American artist. The award is given to “critically acclaimed artists whose body of work has contributed to our society in a singular manner,” the Marian Anderson Award official Twitter page says.

The award will be presented to the rap star during the 20th Anniversary Marian Anderson Award Gala and Concert at The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts on November 20.

Previous recipients include Harry Belafonte, Gregory Peck, Quincy Jones, Danny Glover, Oprah Winfrey, Richard Gere, Bill Cosby, Mia Farrow, and Jon Bon Jovi.
