Rachel Brosnahan attends first public event since Kate Spade’s death

Rachel Brosnahan appeared at the 2018 Tony Awards on Sunday night, her first public appearance since her aunt, Kate Spade, died by suicide last week.

The “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” star walked the red carpet in a floral Dolce & Gabbana long-sleeved gown. She posed for photos but didn’t do press. Later in the evening, Brosnahan introduced a performance from “The Band’s Visit,” which featured her “Mrs. Maisel” co-star Tony Shalhoub.

One day after Spade was found dead, Brosnahan took to Instagram to pay tribute to her aunt, sharing a heartwarming video of her happily dancing.

“She had a light that words can’t capture but touched everyone she came into contact with,” she wrote. “She was exceedingly kind, beautifully sensitive, insanely talented, funny as heck and one of the most generous people I have ever known. She was effervescent.”

After Brosnahan took home a Golden Globe for her performance on the hit Amazon series, Spade told us exclusively, “I am beside myself! My daughter and I jumped up and down when she won. She deserves this recognition, as she’s put her heart and soul into the role. We are insanely proud.”
